Academic Mission

The Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education program at Makerere University equips students with foundational knowledge and practical skills for nurturing young children's development. This program emphasizes child psychology, curriculum development, health and safety practices, and effective communication with children and families. Students will engage in theoretical coursework and hands-on experiences in diverse early learning settings. Upon completion, graduates will be prepared for roles as early childhood educators, caregivers, and program assistants in kindergartens, preschools, and childcare centers. Key skills developed include pedagogical approaches for early learning, observation and assessment techniques, and fostering social-emotional growth in young children.
