CELIBACY 7:25-40 Paul’s gives his opinion as one who is worthy of trust, by the Lord’s mercy, concerning what the Corinthians had written about the unmarried people. Paul’s is of the view that a man should stay as he is, considering the present distress. He says that those who are unmarried should not look for a wife. Paul says he would rather spare the Corinthians the everyday troubles that the married people will have. Paul says that there is not much time left and therefore the married men should live as though they were not married. He says that those who weep should do so as though they were not sad. He says that those who laugh should do so as though they were not happy. He says that those who buy should do so as though they did not own what they bought. He says those who deal in material goods should do so as though they were not fully occupied with them. He says all the above because the world will not last much longer. Paul says that he wants the Corinthians to be free from worry. Paul says that an unmarried man concerns himself with the Lord’s work because he is trying to please the Lord. Paul says that an unmarried woman or a virgin concerns herself with the Lord’s work because she wants to be dedicated both in body and spirit. Paul tells the Corinthians that he is saying so because he wants to help them rather than putting restrictions on them. Paul says he wants them to what is right and proper and to give themselves completely to the Lord’s service without any reservation.
