Academic Mission
The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering program at Makerere University equips students with a strong foundation in engineering principles applied to biological and medical challenges. This interdisciplinary program integrates knowledge from engineering, biology, medicine, and computer science to foster innovation in healthcare. Students will engage with core engineering disciplines such as mechanics, electronics, and materials science, alongside specialized biomedical topics like biomechanics, biomaterials, medical imaging, and physiological modeling. The curriculum emphasizes problem-solving, design thinking, and ethical considerations within the biomedical field. Graduates will be prepared for roles in medical device development, research and development in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, clinical engineering, and further advanced studies.
