In 2025, heavy rains destroyed several crop gardens in a community in Kigumba District, reducing household incomes and increasing unemployment among young people. To address the challenge, local leaders organized a meeting where residents were encouraged to identify activities that could generate income and improve living standards. Some community members suggested establishing enterprises that would utilize locally available resources, while others expressed concern about the factors that could affect the success of such activities. Task a) Explain why some community members may choose to start and operate their own income- generating activities instead of relying on paid employment. b) Discuss the factors within and outside the community that could influence the success of the proposed activities. 2. Following the discovery of oil-related activities in the Albertine region, many young people in Hoima City became interested in improving their livelihoods. A group of school leavers noticed increasing demand for goods and services from workers and visitors. They began discussing possible ways of earning income from the emerging opportunities but realized that various conditions around them could either support or hinder their efforts. Task a) Examine the reasons that may encourage the youth to pursue income-generating activities in their community. b) Explain how the surrounding conditions may influence the success or failure of their efforts . 3. A community in Kagadi District experienced a decline in employment opportunities after a large company reduced its workforce.
