Begin each item on a fresh page. P210/1 HISTORY Paper 1 2026 3 hours 2 SECTION A Respond to both items in this section. Item 1 Before colonial rule in Africa, many communities were stable and well organised. Communities were built on strong traditional foundations: the clan, age groups and community production. These systems ensured daily survival, main tained peace and order and transferred vital cultural knowledge and work ethics acr oss generations which contributed postively to society. Today, many traditional foundations have either declined or been abandoned. As a result, areas of moral decay have emerged among some young people in communities. Some young people have become lazy, violent, disrespect ful, use vulgar language, and drugs, which threatens community peace a nd development. In response, cultural leaders in some communities are advocating for strategies aimed at reviving these foundations to restore moral values among young peo ple today. Task: (a) Analyse the traditional foundations in addressing the community challenges . (b) Examine the strategies that cultural leaders can use to revive the traditional foundations as a means to restore moral values among young people. Item 2 The colonial powers in East Africa introduced formal education s ystem specifically designed to produce low-level clerks, interpreters, artisans, and tea chers to serve colonial interests.
