NAM E ………………………………………………………….STREAM ……………. S.4 MATHEMATICS TEST TWO 1 HOUR Attempt all items in this paper. Item 1 Mukasa is a poultry farmer who has bought 54 cocks and 72 hens. He intends to put these birds in cages with equal number of hens and equal number of cocks. He wants to determine the number of cages to make and the number of hens and cocks in each cage. Due to a disease outbreak , he has been advised to get a treatment. The treatment can be formed buy mixing three vaccines A, B and C such that the ratio of A:B IS 3:2 and that of B:C is 4:5. He is supposed to make a total amount of 45 litres of the medicine. He wants to determine the exact amount of vaccine C to be put in the mixture and its cost since one litre of the vaccine C costs shs 8900. He has instructed his wife to buy the vaccine and asked her to withdraw the money from his mobile money account. he gave her a note with a number 170 written in base nine and she has to convert it to base four to obtain the exact pin. She needs your help. Task (a) Help Mukasa to determine; (i) The number of cages to make. (ii) The number of hens and cocks to be put in each cage. (b) Determine the amount of C and the total cost of buying the vaccine C for the required treatment. (c) Show Mukasa ‘s wife how she can obtain the exact pin for withdrawing the money.
