A coast is part of land bordering the sea or any other extensive tract of water l ike ocean. The nature of the coast is influenced by wave action, sea level changes and occurrence of coral rocks. A wave is an oscillation or ripples on water caused by wind, earthquakes, volcanic activity like eruption and/or moving objects on water lik e ships, boats, fish, animals and so on. Tides and marine Waves Tides and marine waves are both rhythmic movements of ocean water, but they differ in origin, scale, and impact. Tides are driven by gravitational forces of the moon and sun, while waves ar e mainly generated by wind energy passing over the ocean surface. Nature of Tides Gravitational origin: Caused by the pull of the moon and sun on Earth’s oceans. Periodic rise and fall: Occur in predictable cycles (usually two high and two low tides daily) . Large -scale movement: Involves entire ocean basins, not just surface water. Ecological significance: Shapes coastal ecosystems, estuaries, and intertidal zones. Human impact: Influences fishing, navigation, and tidal energy generation.
