Uganda’s Cash Transfer Program for Private Teachers: Eligibility and Details

Historical Note: This Cash Relief Program was originally introduced to support teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) has announced a new Cash Relief Program aimed at supporting private school teachers, tutors, and instructors nationwide. This initiative provides a vital financial boost to educators teaching in private primary and secondary schools, health training institutions, and vocational training schools.

Program Overview

The cash transfer program will support up to 150,000 teachers across the country. Each eligible teacher will receive UGX 200,000 net. To ensure teachers receive the full amount, the program will cover all associated taxes and withdrawal fees.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Cash Relief Program, teachers must meet all of the following criteria:

• You are not on the Government payroll.
• You may be teaching in a government school, provided you are not on the government payroll.
• You are duly registered or licensed by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
• You are currently teaching in a private school or institution (this must be verified by the Head of the School/Institution by attaching a payroll).
• You have a mobile money account registered in your name that matches your National Identification Number (NIN).
